The objectives of the Association Regional Magistrates of Southern Africa are inter alia  to:

" Position the Regional Court, as an autonomous Court having criminal and civil  jurisdiction, with Regional Magistrates as an autonomous professional group between the Supreme Court and the Magistrate's Court in the hierarchy of Courts."

To achieve this objective the Regional Court Status Committee came into being as a result of a decision at the Annual General Congress of ARMSA  held during November 2008.
